I know that on an individual level when making a donation I check to be sure that at least the majority (I look for more than 75%) of my monetary donation is actually going to the cause and not just "administrative costs." Having worked in non-profits in the past, I'm not adverse to competitive salaries, but the upper 6 figures goes well beyond competitive. I think that there is a movement towards more responsible spending all around.
